Wunjō is the eighth rune of the Elder Futhark and writes the sound /w/.
Only the Old English poem includes this rune. It calls it wynn, joy or bliss, and describes the joyful person as free of suffering and worry, with prosperity and a good home. The Norse poems, which cover the 16-rune Younger Futhark, have no stanza for it.
Reconstructed
Scholarly reconstruction from linguistic evidence.
The Proto-Germanic name is reconstructed as *wunjō, "joy."
In practice today
How people use this rune now, in divination, magic, and devotion. Valid in its own right, and labeled modern so it isn’t mistaken for history.
In Ralph Blum's modern divination system, this rune (spelled Wunjo) is read as joy.
Practice today: wyrd, galdr, and other old words people use when working with the runes now.
