Perþō is the fourteenth rune of the Elder Futhark and writes the sound /p/.
Only the Old English poem includes this rune, as peorð. Its stanza calls peorð a source of recreation and amusement for the great, where warriors sit happily together in the hall, but never says what peorð is.
Reconstructed
Scholarly reconstruction from linguistic evidence.
The Proto-Germanic name is tentatively reconstructed as *perþō, and its meaning is unknown.
In practice today
How people use this rune now, in divination, magic, and devotion. Valid in its own right, and labeled modern so it isn’t mistaken for history.
In Ralph Blum's modern divination system, this rune (spelled Perth) is read as initiation.
Practice today: wyrd, galdr, and other old words people use when working with the runes now.
